A few thoughts coming to mind after a few very enjoyable days in Newport, Wales.
Among all nice things we did with some dear friends – visiting Newport, strolling around the pretty village of Carleon, visiting the annual art festival, climbing the Newport cathedral tower… – I have something very trivial to report: I couldn’t help to compare the drinking patterns in the UK and in Belgium by looking at the male pissoir in pub’s toilets.
I know, this is not something you dream reading about but, again, it’s indicative of people (men) behaviour in these two countries so please read on…
UK pub: I went to the gents after one pint to relieve myself and this is what I found.
Today we’re in Brussels (National Day, everyone’s out and enjoying the nice weather, for once) and I had the chance of visiting Belgian restrooms in a cafe: apart from the design layout, what you notice is the size of the appliances…
Conclusion: UK pubs need to cater for the average toilet visitor, who is better not challenged by an “aim-and-shoot” type pissoir… while the much more moderated Belgian drinkers can manage these.
Anyway, enough with this, next posts will show and tell more from our trip.
